2009 Coaching Staff

The 2009 Green Mighty Mites Coaching Staff is a team of long-time Hornets Coaches with a dash of new blood. The group met prior to the start of the season to review PYFA rules, coaching philosophy, player development goals, evaluation forms, individual responsibilities, practice schedules and of course, Offensive and Defensive set ups.

We are very fortunate to have 8 skilled coaches. Each coach will be responsible for a specific part of the team, and will focus 90% of their time, effort, and energy to their pinpoint responsibility.

By doing this we hope that (A) our kids aren't confused because whenever Coach A speaks to them, he'll always be talking "offense" or "defense", (B) that our coaches, by being focused, can become near-experts at their specific task, and (C) each coach can provide input on a players' development with their own unique skill set in mind.

We truly enjoy each other's company (and I think that will show), love football, and really like seeing the kids get better and better each week. Here's our 2009 Staff with a "did you know" about each individual coach:

OFFENSIVE COACHES

Jeff Minor Offensive Line

2nd year coach Jeff Minor worked with our offensive linemen in 2008, and this year moves to center stage. Jeff hopes that Hornets fans will support his Minor Fan Club Initiative in 2009 ... to date there are only 3 members, but as Jeff proudly noted in the July Edition of "Minor Movers" (the fan-club newsletter), enrollment is up 33%!

Mike Pastirik Offensive Backs

2nd year coach Mike Pastirik moves up to the Green Mighty Mites after a year coaching, and a year as Team Dad for the Green Mites. In the off-season Mike volunteers at the Clinique Labs in New York trying out experimental facial creams, and aerosal based deoderants so that the company can claim "animal free testing".

Kirk Weissenfluh Offensive Line

2nd year coach Kirk Weissenfluh takes a step back in time to join our Mighty Mites squad in 2009 after a year helping to coach the Hornets Green Juniors last year. Kirk is a member of the "Minor Fan Club 2009 Initiative".

HEAD COACH

Scott D. Vinson  -   Offensive Coordinator

9th year coach Scott Vinson is the longest tenured WYFCL Coach. Scott is considered the "Marv Levy" of the WYFCL (google Marv Levy for the similarity) for his coaching acumen.

Scott set a personal best record last season by not "sticking his foot in his mouth" until the 2nd practice of the season.

His wife, Ann, noted that "often he can't go 6- to 7-minutes without doing that ... so a whole day ... I was like, WOW ... let's get ice cream to celebrate!"

ASSISTANT HEAD COACH

     Chuck Walker    -     Defensive Coordinator

Chuck Walker, 4th year coach, needs no ice cream to celebrate however. Chuck is well liked by parents and kids alike and his enthusiasm knows no bounds. Chuck is so into our Hornets games that he was the only coach in the league last season to nearly be credited with a tackle, fumble recovery and interception.

Amazingly over the years Chuck has retained his physique and can still get into his High School Football jersey ... it should be noted however, that's because he had his tailor cut the jersey down, and make a pair of socks out of it.

DEFENSIVE COACHES

Geoff Pope Defensive Backs

5th year coach Geoff Pope led the Hornets Juniors to their 1st PYFA Superbowl appearance in over a decade in 2008. For 2009 he steps back to work with our Defensive Players. Geoff, an avid off-season golfer, enjoys a 3-handicap on the links, if you don't count kicks, pushes, dinks, gimmees, whiffs, nudges and mulligans.

Chris Bolt Defensive Backs

We're fortunate to have 3rd year Coach Chris Bolt back with us. If for no other reason than after our initial Coaches meeting it was determined that Chris, with his active exercise regimen, was the only coach capable of leading pre-practice callistetics without having a signed medcal waiver and on-site physician.

David Hassell Defensive Line

1st year coach David Hassell joins our Green Mighty Mites staff this year. David has football coaching experience with other leagues although we hardly count the Girls 6-under Powder Puff league as real football.
