Game Summary (October 11, 2008)

Green Hornets Defense Holds

Gold In Check For 19 - 0 Victory

The stout Green Hornets defense hemmed in both the inside and outside running threats of the Gold Hornets throughout the game, and the Green Hornets Offense scored just enough to take home the win against an inspired Gold Hornets squad 19 – 0.

The Green Defense forced the Gold's Offense into two 4-and-out series and 3 punts during the game, limiting the Gold's offensive progress in the game.

Defensive linemen Ar’Mon Jones, Sam Tyler & Russ Schugeld caused trouble across the front getting the Gold Backs often before they got their footing set in the backfield.

Ryan Jones (5-tackles) & Caden Darber (6-stops) led the defensive charge, while Safety Joey Hill added another 3 tackles to his growing resume.

Offensively, the Hornets moved the ball consistently and largely between the tackles on the ground. Cesar Ward pounded out 60-yds rushing; while Darber added 55-yds of his own. Good blocking up front by Alan Burkett, Jake Savala, Tadic Mielczarek and Hunter Brummett opened the lanes.

A momentum swinging play came just before the half when receiver Zach Pennycuff snuck behind the Gold Hornets' Linebacking corps and hauled in a 38-yd TD pass from Darber to put the Green up 7 – 0 at intermission.

Hill created a buzz in the stands when he reeled in the Gold's opening kick-off of the 2nd half, and raced up the middle of the field behind a couple of well placed blocks by Bryant Walker, and Josh Herslow, returning the Gold’s kick-off 60-yds for a Green score, and a 13 – 0 lead.

Later in the game, and facing a crucial 3rd and 15, receiver Ryan Creecy had a spinning chain-moving grab of a pass for a big 25-yd gain.

Cornerback Ryan Jones iced the game for the Green Hornets when he scooped up fumble on the game's final play and zipped into the endzone for a 10-yd TD score.

The Defense gets a pep talk from Gabe; the whole team hears about 110% every play from Coach Scott.

Game Captains, Herslow, Pope, Clayton & Hunter Brittain; is it the coin toss, or did we find a cool bug?
