Game Summary (October 4, 2008)

Hornets Score Three 2nd Quarter TDs;

Defeat James City Silver Jaguars 34 - 6

The Hornets scored a trio of 2nd quarter touchdowns to build a 21 – 0 halftime lead on their way to a 34 – 6 victory over the James City Silver Jaguars on Saturday.

The Hornets had to answer an early wake up call on defense though as Joey Hill (3-tackles) ended a hot pursuit chasing down a Jaguar runner near the Williamsburg goal line early in the game. Once the alarm went off, Sam Tyler (2-tackles), Chris Humphries (2-tackles, pass break-up), Ryan Jones (5-tackles) & Hunter Brittain (4-tackles) worked to get the ball to the Hornets offense.

Williamsburg then drove 60-yds on 11-plays for a score. Timely carries by Cameron Chevrier and Cesar Ward, as well as a clutch 11-yd pass reception by Ryan Creecy kept the sticks moving on the drive.

Caden Darber was the fuel for the offensive machine though, amassing 140 hard nosed rushing yards and completing 4 of his 6 pass attempts for 50-yds.

Front line blocking, led by Jake Savala, Tadic Mielczarek, Alan Burkett, Hunter Brummett, Kade Campbell & Justin Ford opened big holes for Darber.

The tipping point in the game came just before half time when the Hornets executed a flawless 2-minute drill … running 5-plays in the half’s final :48 seconds, the last an 18-yd TD strike from Darber to Zach Pennycuff as time expired.

In the 2nd half, Marcos Piggott zipped 45-yds for a TD and Monii Burden added a PAT to provide the final margin. Defenders were led by Clayton Vinson (4-tackles), Josh Womeldorf (3-tackles), Zach Pope, Carter Weissenfluh & Garrett Turner (2-tackles each).
