The 2011 PYFA Midgets level has a group of 16 regional teams from along the Peninsula with the addition of a new league in Middlesex for this year.
(1) Each team will play a 10-game season in consecutive weeks, with no BYE weeks in the season
(2) Playoffs will include the top "6" teams at the Midgets level
(3) Playoffs include a "Wild Card Round", then a "Quarterfinal Round", and finally the Super Bowl
This is exciting for many reasons, including:
(1) With 16-teams and an unbalanced schedule (ie: not every team plays each other) it allows for teams who might play a difficult schedule to not be shut out of the playoffs because of 1 or 2 tough losses along the season.
(2) It makes more games mean more later in the season, which makes more kids play in a competitive environment.
(3) With the bye week eliminated, there is no "down time" during the season.
Teams are ranked in the standings by points. Points are awarded as follows: 2pt for a win, 1pt for a tie, 0pts for a loss. The top-6 teams with the highest accumulated points total at the end of the year will make the playoffs.
The Hornets Schedule features several highlights including a schedule loaded with Playoff teams from 2010 including: James City, Poqouson, Hampton and Tidewater, as well as perennial playoff contender Back River.
Another big game for the Green Hornets is our October 8th contest with the Williamsburg Gold Hornets to be played at William & Mary's Zable Stadium ... a don't miss date!
