Hornets Offense Scores Big In First Half; Williamsburg Tops Grafton-Tabb 33 - 6
Williamsburg piled up 4 first half touchdowns to build a 27 - 6 halftime lead then coasted to a 33 - 6 victory over Grafton-Tabb in Grafton on Saturday.
Carter Weissenfluh had an all-around day pulling down an interception and getting in on 6-tackles, one a touchdown saving stop, on defense, while offensively he caught a pass for a PAT and threw a 15-yd TD pass to Zach Pope, one of Pope's 2 catches in the game, for another score.
Bruising runningback Monii Burden tallied 2 touchdown runs from 26-yds out and from 9-yds out while amassing 85-yds rushing on the day in his 9-carries. Burden also hauled in a pass reception for a big 32-yd gain on a 4th down call.
Cesar Ward rushed for 54-yds on 5-carries including a 25-yd TD run and went 3 for 6 passing for 56-yds. Michael Burt and Hunter Brittain each had a couple carries in the game and both had PAT runs to add to the Hornets 1st half scoring totals.
You can't amass that much offense without strong blocking up front, and Cooper Minor, Kade Campbell, Bryant Walker, Clayton Vinson, and Tadic Mielczarek did their collective part to keep the Grafton-Tabb defenders on their heels and on the other side of the line of scrimmage throughout the half.
Defensively, Brittain far and away led all Hornets, getting in on 10-tackles on the day. Josh Herslow followed with 5-stops from his linebacker position, while Pope, Burden, Vinson and Walker were credited as being in on 4-tackles each.
Garrett Turner, TJ Davis, Tyler Neville and Josh Farley tallied 2-tackles each in the first half.
In the 2nd half, Williamsburg's continued moving the ball by taking the 3rd quarter kick-off and motoring 40-yds on 4-plays for another score. Hunter Pegram zigged & zagged on a 19-yd carry to move the ball close behind blockers Trent Neville and Mickey Smith.
Then, Zach Stallings ran behind Joey Cianciatti racing 15-yds to the goal line on a nice TD run putting Williamsburg up 33 - 6.
Jeremy Herslow alertly pounced on the ensuing kick-off as it was bobbled by the Tiger's return men, and back on the field came the Hornets Offense. In the 8-play drive, Pegram again ripped off a nice 12-yd carry for a Hornet 1st down, this time behind blockers Jonathon Tarpley and Tori Roggenbusch.
Providing the defensive muscle in the 2nd half, Gunner Mueller tallied 4-stops, while Ryan Pastirik was in on 3 hits. Chase Dively, Josh Womeldorf and Stallings each registered 2 tackles. Nick Doyle, Pegram, Tr. Neville, Ben Tyler and Roggenbusch each recorded a stop as well.
