Cheer Program – Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Queen Bees! 🐝
Te Williamsburg Hornets Cheer Team, also known as the Queen Bees, is our community sideline cheer squad. Cheerleaders cheer during Hornets football games, much like middle school or high school sideline cheerleading — leading cheers, supporting the team, and sparking game-day spirit!
What is the overall goal of the Hornets Cheer Program?
Our goal is for every cheerleader to have fun, build confidence, and learn at a comfortable pace. Our coaches are committed to creating a positive environment focused on relationships, self-esteem, motivation, encouragement, safety, teamwork, and mentorship.
What is included with registration?
Registration includes:
What shoes are required?
Cheerleaders must purchase white cheer shoes or plain white athletic shoes for practices and game days.
Will there be a uniform fitting?
Yes. Uniform fittings will be held during the summer.
Girls should wear shorts and a tank top or lightweight shirt to ensure accurate sizing.
A DMV-issued ID is not required, but proof of birth is required in order to receive uniforms.
Is summer conditioning required?
No. Summer conditioning is optional and held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00–7:00 PM. Conditioning is relaxed and fun. The focus is on getting to know the girls, learning basic motions and simple cheers, light exercises, cheer fundamentals, and playing games.
No prior cheer experience is required, and we do not expect girls to know everything.
When do official practices begin?
Official practices begin mid-July and are held at the WISC soccer fields closest to the playground and stadium.
Once the season begins, practices move to Mondays and Wednesdays, starting at 6:00 PM. Most practices run from 6:00–7:00 PM, though Wednesday practices may occasionally run until 7:30 PM.
Practices are mandatory, as this is when game cheers and routines are taught. Please notify the coach or cheer coordinator ahead of time if a practice will be missed.
If new material is taught at a missed practice, a cheerleader may sit out halftime. Girls are never pressured to perform if they are uncomfortable.
Will the girls perform a halftime routine?
Yes. Cheerleaders will learn a halftime routine that will be performed at the PYFCO Cheerboree. The date has not yet been determined.
When is the cheer season?
The game season runs from late August through late October, with playoffs in November.
Games may be held at our home field or involve local travel, including Hampton, Gloucester, or Windsor.
What do game days look like?
Saturday game days typically begin at 8:00 AM (sometimes 9:00 AM) and run throughout the day by age division.
Cheerleaders should arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled game time for warm-ups.
How will we receive communication and updates?
All communication—including practices, games, and updates—will be shared through a communication app managed by your coach.
The 2026 season calendar, including games, events, and fundraisers, will also be posted on our Facebook page once the official PYFCO schedule is released.
